About Me
My name is Kim Lashombe. By day, I’m a technical writer for Corporate America. I have over 15 years experience writing online content such as online help, training guides, and tutorials. I have a degree in English with a minor in Technical Communication.
In my spare time, I love to create video scrapbooks. I started my video scrapbooking hobby in 1999 when a friend showed me a video he created using Pinnacle Studio DV software. From that moment on, I was hooked. I went out and bought a “top-of-the-line” Gateway Intel 450-MHz Pentium II processor with a 13.5 GB hard drive, 128 MB of memory, and DVD burner. (Don’t laugh. That little machine cost me just under $3,000!) It wasn’t easy editing video on that computer. I cried through many crashes, which made me even more determined to learn.
Most of my learning was self taught. The majority of information that was written out on the wonderful World Wide Web was written for video editing professionals… meaning that it was a lot of jargon and written completely over my head!
But once I produced my first video scrapbook, all those long hours and tears paid off. My friends and family loved my videos. Some even wanted me to teach them how to create their own video scrapbooks.
Over the last few years, technology has vastly improved and computers have gotten much cheaper. You can now find a good home video editing computer for $1000 or less. Plus, video editing software has greatly improved. There are a lot more software options today than there were just a few years ago.
Since home video editing is more economical these days, I wanted to use my technical writing skills to teach other hobbyists how they too can create memories that can be passed on from generation to generation!
Thus, Scrapbooks Alive was born!
